Note :- These notes are according to the R09 Syllabus book of JNTU.In R13 and R15,8-units of R09 syllabus are combined into 5-units in R13 and R15 syllabus. If you have any doubts please refer to the JNTU Syllabus Book.

Unit-1:

• Fist law for a closed system, First law of thermodynamics for on open system, Engineering Thermodynamics, Thermodynamics System, Isolated System, Property,
• Extensive property, Concept of continuum,mechanical equilibrium, Chenical Equilibrium, Thermal Equilibrium, modes of work transfer, zeroth law of thermodynamics, concept of continuum,

Unit-2:

• External agency,  Classical statement of the 2nd law, Absolute thermodynamic scale of temperature,Apply Hess’s law to determine,
• ∆H° for a reaction, Explain why ∆H for a reaction proportional to the quantity of reactants, Explain what is meant by a spontaneous process, Define entropy,
• The change in the Gibbs free energy is the maximum work that a spontaneous process can perform, It is also the minimum work required to carry out a non-spontaneous process.

Unit-3:

• Ideal Reheat Rankine Cycle, reversible constant pressure, reversible adiabatic expansion,Thermodynamics explains these two statements:
• The rate of a reaction depends on the reaction’s activation energy and whether or not the reaction will proceed to competition or just a state of equilibrium,Energy is released during the forming of bonds and is absorbed during the breaking of bonds.

Unit-4:

• Avogadro’s law, Inversion curve, joule Thomson coefficient, throttling process, clapeyron equation, generalised relation for specification heat cp and cv, entropy changes, General relations of du,dh,ds and cp and cv, Internal energy charges.
